‘Tis the Season…for garden dreaming!

3 Jan
September harvest

The very last harvest of Fall 2014!

As soon as the planning, shopping, wrapping, baking, making, eating, partying and traveling for the holidays are over, I feel a new excitement stirring in my bones – my 2015 garden!

I invite you to come on an adventure with me while I dig, amend, compost, seed, feed and harvest herbs, vegetables and flowers.  Then as the harvesting begins we’ll experiment with canning, making tea mixtures and homemade cleaning and beauty products.

I also bake bread and will share tips and recipes for both yeast and sourdough breads, as well as quick breads and muffins using seasonal ingredients. I have a 100-year old starter from France, which I received as a Christmas gift, and look forward to documenting its journey to a completed loaf of French bread.

January is when seed companies send out their colorful (some are works of art!) catalogs.   Some even offer special deals – like R.H. Shumway, which will send you 2 packets of free seeds if you order at least $20 in seeds by March 15th.

I like to order from seed companies that are geographically close to where I live and garden or at least are     in or near USDA Hardiness Zone 6  Check out more about your zone on the National Gardening      Association website.
